The other day, I contacted an old friend that I have not seen in several years. We had been very close and in tune with each other, alike in many ways. After the greetings and "catch-ups", he turned the conversation to politics. He began by stating that he was a Christian (which I already knew) and that he didn't have many people to discuss his two favorite subjects with; politics and religion. Since these were also my favorite subjects, I told him that I would discuss these with him at any time.
So he took this opportunity to explain several things to me of which I didn't agree and of which I determined that he leaned a bit left (although, he would not admit that he was a democrat) and also that he would support only democratic party candidates. How George W. Bush was himself the devil incarnate and inherently evil and that most, if not all, of the world's problems were wrought directly at his hand; from the poor black people in the Cincy suburbs who have no hope and who are "held" down by the government (not that all fit this description) to the genocide in Rwanda! Quote: "How can Neil Armstrong have that huge house in Cincinnati while all these people are struggling so?" (Although, he also told me that his house is paid for and that he just paid cash for a new car for his wife and that he only works two days a week at his job!?! We never got to the subject of religion) I also know that during his first marriage, he raised 4 children and put them all through college on the government's nickel! When I tried to get a word in edgewise to voice my rejection of these ideas, I was told that just as any typical republican, I refused to let anyone else say what they had to say. So I listened. I listened to him telling me how ungodly I was for not accepting this and that he had knowledge of the truth and that I had "views" that were wrong. Also that I was unenlightened because I didn't know what a "presidential signing statement" was? That the Iraq war is being fought only because Bush willed it and lied about it to fool everyone else into participation.
He then told me why he doesn't answer his phone -because he has this "thing" about technology taking over your life? How he wants to distance himself from his children? I have children also; and that is why my cell phone is with me 24/7!
Anyway, he is really not a bad guy. He is peaceful; and loving. However, he has been brainwashed by the far left liberal media and is swallowing some of that hate speach that comes from their gullet!
Why can't we all stand together, support our president and our troops, do what is right for us and the world - not basing every decision on how much money we can make, and above all - love one another? Just riddle me that!?!?!
Anyway, political discussions are great even when opinions vary. But you best watch your back with some people!
